Maxine Mead's "Most Beautiful Bike Ride"
Welcome! Please join me as I train for my first century, "America's Most Beautiful Bike Ride," 100 miles around Lake Tahoe on June 1, 2003.
I'll be riding for my Honored Teammate, 8-year-old Brianna, of Columbia, Maryland, who was diagnosed at age 2 with Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia. The goal of my ride is to raise at least $4,000 for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. LLS is working to find a cure for blood-related cancers, and to improve the quality of life of patients and their families. Thanks in part to research funded by LLS, the survival rates for patients with blood-related cancers has been rising steadily over the past 40 years. Team In Training, the world's largest and most successful endurance training program, will provide my teammates and me with an intensive, four-month training regimen that will (I fervently hope!) see me crossing the century finish line in Lake Tahoe.
